UPDATE 5/22/08
Slow to update. Fast at the
track. Leading the B Superstock class in points. First win last weekend at Grattan. Great racing on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was all about being prepared on
and off the track. That turned in to
strong finishes at the physical Grattan Raceway. Sunday I made the mistake of changing my gearing. That led to huge changes in brake markers
that I was not ready for. Result is
that I got shafted in the first turn and spent the 8 laps recovering. Lessons learned. Gingerman
should be interesting next week. Time to start making some moves in the C Superstock and C Superbike
classes.
UPDATE 4/15/08
It’s go time. First
practice at Nashville
is this weekend. The R6 is
ready. Just add water. Literally. Still have to deal with overnight freezing
in Michigan. Spending some quality time in the new
leathers. They should be broken in
after tonight.
Last week we did some dyno tuning. This was our first taste of race
gas. Pretty happy with the
results. Explains why we had so much
trouble keeping up last year. Good
luck to the rest of the novice field.
They are going to need it.
UPDATE 1/27/08
The 2008 schedule is posted. We
will be very busy once the season starts.
As most of the tracks are very familiar to us, there will be limited
practice events. If there is room to
do more at new track we will work them in when we get bored.
Right now we are looking for sponsors interested in season
contributions. This will be very
important for us to keep the schedule we have set as our new performance
marks will take an increased budget from 2007. We will be running the same 2007 Yamaha
R6. The paint scheme will be fresh
as always and look for some new graphics.
UPDATE 10/06/07
That is it for 2007. Season is over. We finished up with a test at
Grattan and Mid Ohio. Scheduling conflict prevented going to the Mid Ohio
race, so the next best thing was a practice day right after. Both days were
very successful. Good data for both tracks. Speaking of data, the data
logger is working and we just need to plug in some formulas to make some
sense of the GPS and suspension information and we are rolling. We
qualified for two classes at the Grand National Final, but financially we
cannot go. Start saving for next year. Putting together a lot of sponsor
concepts right now so this will not be an issue next year.
UPDATE 8/27/07
What a weekend! After a leisurely drive to practice on Friday, things
got intense on Sunday. With rain looming on Friday, we got a couple of good
practice sessions in. Tire pressure changes were the main focus. That and
the new tires got us into the 1:27s without a problem. Still not enough so
needed to step things up come Saturday and Sunday. The Middleweight solo
was going well until about halfway. The rear tire definitely said that's
all she wrote. At that point, it was decision time. New PR4 for the HW solo
and Sunday practice. Spend the money on a new set for the sprint races.
Faster and faster as Sunday went on. After being held up in Superstock C, Superstock B
landed a 1:26.4 with some 1:27s and 1:28s. Last race was Superbike C, time to go. After getting screwed in turn
one of every race of the weekend, I think I finally made some progress and
took the inside line like everyone else. After a flury
of 1:26 laps, I blew it on turn two and was forced to play it safe by going
straight. As I watched my 5th (hunting for 4th) place position go down the
tubes, I safely got back on the track around 14th place. Took it easy for
about half a lap and flogged out a 1:26.0 on the last lap. That turn is permently stuck in my head now.
UPDATE 8/18/07
Pieces are falling into place for the race next weekend. Data logger
should be ready to intall on Tuesday. That will
put a crunch on getting it installed on the bike before the race. Picking
up some tires today so the bike will be ready to roll on to the track. We
did a practice on Monday and made some suspension improvements. Not sure we
are quite there, 1:29s on some very worn tires.
Still had fun flying around the RSV-1000s and other street bikes. Nice to
feel fast even when you know you are slow. Need to be running a 1:25 or
better. Now sure how to make that happen. Tires and race day excitement
will be good for 2 seconds, but that still leaves me middle of the pack.
UPDATE 7/22/07
Finally a quite weekend at home. Bike is just hanging out in the garage waiting
for some action. I figured out the electrical problem I was having. Luckily
it was the battery and I did not have to dig in to fix it. Nothing says dumbass like having to push start a 2007 bike at the
track. Not sure exactly what I am going to do between now and the August
race. Quite a few options with the CA Superbike
school being a prime candidate, if I can convince myself I will learn
something. I guess at least it would be fun going out there and being top
dog amongst some ultra newbies.
